-
Hello again, this time I’ve come looking for advice on a cheap muzzle device. Long term I do want to go down the path of getting a suppressor, which is why I wanna go cheap, i.e. because it’ll eventually get replaced anyway, but that might be a couple years down the line so in the meantime I’d like something on the end of my barrel other than a thread protector.
This is for a 6.5 creedmoor, but because I’m going cheap I’m thinking a muzzle device for a 308 will (have to) suffice. Two of the devices I’m considering are the following:
1) [AR-STONER Precision Muzzle Brake 5/8″ – 24 Thread AR-10, LR-308 Matte](https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1019118379?pid=131328)
2) [Strike Industries JCOMP Gen 2 Compensator 7.62mm 5/8″-24 Thread Steel Matte](https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1021316026?pid=100312)
Obviously a big difference between the two are that 1 is a brake while 2 is a comp. This’d be going on a Bergara BMP, almost entirely for LR target shooting. For that purpose, I’m guessing a brake makes more sense? Sorry, still a newbie on all this – my understanding is that brakes are mainly intended to reduce felt recoil while comps are mainly meant to reduce muzzle rise, though they both end up doing at least a little of what the other is mainly intended to do?
And of course I’m open to other options too. Any input is appreciated here, thank you!

In that sense, comps are often just weak brakes and are often more tactical/style oriented than function oriented. They are also usually quieter (because they are weaker).
As for the Stoner branded mystery-brake, the only caveat is you will need a way to time it so add the cost of a shim kit.
