(Advice) I’m looking to pick up a good EDC for general protection, and would love a little guidance

I live in AZ and I’m turning 21 in a few months (18 to open carry 21 to conceal carry here). I’d like to start carrying, guns have been a part of my life since day one, from hunting, gun safety classes, firing ranges, etc. I know my way around most guns, but I would love some advice on which direction I should move in in terms of model, carry-style, and general tips to know. I’d like something around $300 if possible, and I like the belt buckle concealment style, but I worry that it’ll be too noticable here because Im usually only wearing one too layer because I of the heat. I do wear an open flannel on top of my shirt most days though so maybe a side holster? Forgive my lack of terminology, I would just love some guidance, really anything would help.
