Americans should probably know (and plan accordingly) that it was the “conservatives” in both the UK and Australia who enacted strict gun control.
Posted by Margaret on March 15, 2022 at 3:26 amThis isn’t to diminish the threat from the left, however do keep this in mind and learn from other countries so you don’t *also* get a knife in the back.
EDIT: The recently passed federal gun control bill is a good case in point, I’m seeing a lot of “Rs” on the
list of people who supported it.And historically, who was it who banned bump stocks?
Who banned the new manufacture of full auto firearms for civilians?
Who passed the Mulford act?
A smart man learns from the mistakes of others, a stupid man learns from his own mistakes or never learns at all.

GuestMarch 15, 2022 at 3:26 amIt’s worth noting that “conservative” and “liberal” don’t really mean the same thing in common parlance of US and UK/Australia. This is in part because “liberal” and “conservative” are *not* general antonyms.
The US is distinct from most nations in that its modern conservativsm draws ideologically from Classical Liberalism, which is the broad category of political philosophy that places value on individual rights, limited government, and *liberty*. This is because the founding of the country was based on principals of philosophical liberalism.
“Liberal” in US common parlance actually refers to what would be better termed “progressive” in that they are trying to use the government to progressively alter society. They are actually highly *il*liberal in their political philosophy, valuing government regulation and collective benefits over individual rights and liberty. Any apparent push towards liberty from progressives inevitably turns out to be a ploy to consolidate government power and devalue the individual.
This is not to say that american conservatives are universally pro-liberty, as classical liberalism is not the only aspect of our country’s origin, and people can react to the disruptions of progressive and radical elements by wanting the government to overreact. However, if you want individual rights and liberty, you’ll have a better chance finding that among American conservatives than just about anywhere else, and especially moreso than American progressives.

GuestMarch 15, 2022 at 3:26 amAmericans need to realize that an armed populace is viewed as a threat by all politicians, regardless of the letter they choose to display after their name.

This applies to every single political party. Left, right, auth & lib.

GuestMarch 15, 2022 at 3:26 amI’ve always loved what Rush said years ago, “If liberals interpreted the Second Amendment they way they interpret the rest of the Constitution, it would be mandatory to have a firearm.”

GuestMarch 15, 2022 at 3:26 amUnfortunately you are right but constitutional conservatives are not for demacrats or republicans, republicans are just as bad a crooks as demacrats just in different ways, constitutional conservatives are considered the third party but since they haven’t seen office in over 120 years it’s hard to tell exactly how it would implement it’s power outside of a complete constitutional restoration of our rights and liberties.
