I’m looking at buying a smaller game rifle, first I was considering a .17hmr but now I am thinking maybe a .222 is a better all-around rifle to get. Does anyone have experience with these old sako? Or can weigh in on which model is the better one to get?

I am primarily looking for a rifle for grouse

I have an l461 in 223. It is a true pleasure to shoot and is so nice, too nice really, that I shoot it lass than I want to. These x-small frame rifles will do anything you want them to. Trigger: great. Accuracy: great. Action: great.

Never owned one of those old Sako but I’d bet they are accurate and well made.

.222 Rem is an efficient and practical round and should be well suited for grouse. If you think most of your shots will be under 200m, consider the 22 hornet as well, I think a lot of those old Sakos were also made for the hornet. The recoil is low enough to see your bullet impact thru the scope.

    Anything Sako makes shoots well.
