Are BB/Airsoft Guns Good For Practice?
Posted by masterpang89 on March 18, 2023 at 6:49 pmOr should I stick with dry fire? I’m a novice shooter. Thanks.

GuestMarch 18, 2023 at 6:50 pmThere is some benefit to using them for practice.
You can practice draw stroke, getting sights on target, some recoil if it’s GBB, target transitions and reloads.
I wouldn’t say to only train with airsoft but I won’t deny it has some applications.

GuestMarch 18, 2023 at 6:50 pmThere’s a few BB gun versions of actual firearms that do their damnedest to be as close as they possibly can to weight and operation, but nothing can really compare to actual live fire.
Doesn’t mean it’s *bad* to practice with a replica, but it will pretty much always be *better* to train with the real thing.

GuestMarch 18, 2023 at 6:50 pmI think it’s a good tool for movement as well. Of course you aren’t getting the same weight, but there’s nothing wrong with building muscle memory.

GuestMarch 18, 2023 at 6:50 pmBB guns yes. Airsoft guns no.
Bb guns usually maintain their accuracy at the ranges their intended for so they can be a decent choice.
Airsoft guns and airsoft bbs are not accurate and usually have pretty pathetic range compared to bb guns.

GuestMarch 18, 2023 at 6:50 pmIt depends on the gun in question.
If, for example, you have a Howa Type 89 (I know you don’t, this is a hypothetical), Tokyo Marui make possibly the most accurate airsoft replica of anything in the form of their GBBR version, which has identical weight, balance and handling to the real thing.
For AKs, LCT make stamped steel replicas which, with the dummy bolt setup, handle and weigh pretty much the same as a real AK.
However, there’s not that much that an airsoft gun lets you practice that you couldn’t just practice with the real thing if you already own it. If you want to familiarise yourself with the handling and operation of your gun, just use your gun. Clear it beforehand, and keep it pointed in the safest direction of course.

GuestMarch 18, 2023 at 6:50 pmAbsolutely. Any trigger time is beneficial. Be it dry fire, airsoft or live fire.
