  • Are shotgun shells dangerous on their own?

Posted by Jessica on November 9, 2021 at 12:13 am

I was just wondering if carrying a shotgun shell is a bad idea. I work at a shooting place and ive ended up with a couple. I dont have a gun or anything I just think they’re cool to have. Basically my question is, are they dangerous to have like say for example, if they got rusted or dented could that cause them to go off?

How do you work at a shooting place and not already know the answer?

No, you’re fine, I mean, I wouldn’t carry them around in my pocket unless I was hunting. But it takes a lot to set off a round.

    No.

Just don’t take a hammer and nail to the primer.

Like to carry around with you day to day? If you aren’t immediately shooting them, then why bother? If you’re just going to put them on your shelf for display as curios, as long as you don’t play whack-a-mole with them, or use them as a hammer, and don’t keep them on your back porch, they should keep just fine.

Just realize, when people see rounds, they can assume there is a gun around as well. i.e. having some rounds rolling around in your car or a backpack sets a bad tone if a cop sees them, or someone afraid of guns. There are plenty of people who are afraid of the sight of a bullet in a hand.
