Deprime .223 brass with either my Hornady .300 aac FL or RCBS .300 aac SB die without cutting it down first??

GuestJune 12, 2021 at 6:42 pmIt would be better to use a universal decapping die. Lee, Hornady, and I’m sure everybody else makes them.
Here’s my workflow: Decap (with universal decapping die), anneal, tumble, resize, load. I’ve removed the decapping stems from all of my sizing dies (I just install the expander ball without the decapping stem inside it).

GuestJune 12, 2021 at 6:42 pmNot if you want to use it as 223 brass again.

GuestJune 12, 2021 at 6:42 pmProbably not, that expander ball is going to hell to push through the .224 opening

GuestJune 12, 2021 at 6:42 pmI use just a basic depriming die, then take the expander/deprimer out of the 300 rcbs small base die, then cut, trim, deburr/chamfer, then put the expander back in and run then through the die to set the neck size correctly.. I hate deburring and chamfering so I’d rather run them through the die twice than deburr twice.. to each their own

GuestJune 12, 2021 at 6:42 pmPut the cart before the horse again…. I don’t even have the press set up. I just got the shell holder delivered today. Guess I need to find my .223 die set or get a universal decapper. Still looking for a Lee FCD for .300 aac and .223 (is it possible to load 5.56 loads in “.223” brass?)

GuestJune 12, 2021 at 6:42 pmRange pickup all mixed in bucket. Universal deprime. The cartridge is individually in hand and eyes might even be available, thus it can be identified. Toss into appropriate bucket for that caliber.

GuestJune 12, 2021 at 6:42 pmJust go get you a universal decaping die, they are usually like $15. Or Frankford Arsenal sells a universal hand deprimer tool for like $30. Much better than trying to rig something up and they are so handy for all calibers.
