I understand the obvious visual difference but im planning a switch barrel build and I’m a bit inexperienced with these types.

If I wanted to change the cartridge from a 30-06 case to a 300 PRC what would I need to do? Would it make a difference if it was the same case diameter like 6.5 PRC and 300 PRC?

Ok, so here’s what you need to think about with a BDL v. a DBM and a 300 PRC in particular.

If you have a Remington 700 with a standard length box in a 30-06 you will need a magnum bolt as mentioned for a 300 PRC. You will also need a magnum follower. You’d need to switch out the followers and bolts at minimum.

We’d also advise looking into running a Wyatt’s extended box for a 300 PRC. The standard length Remington 700 BDL box is a little short for a 300 PRC with heavy 30 cal bullets. However, will also need an action cut for a Wyatt extended box. The factory Remington length is not really set up for heavy for caliber long bullets. However, it looks like reading through here your action is set up for CIP length cartridges. If it’s a custom for CIP you are good.

Another option would be a DBM. You could run CIP length Accurate or MDT magazines. Or our Hunter DBM and Hunter 3 round flush mags as well.

For stocks you’d want a Remington BDL inlet or a Hawkins Oberndorf inlet. They are similar. For magazines you’d want an M5 inlet.

If you’d like, shoot us an email at []( Knowing your full build specs would help a bunch. Bottom metal is our jam. We can fix you up.

Here’s also an article on bottom metal types that may help.

BDL and hinged floorplate are the same thing. It comes from Remington’s terminology. The ADL is a blind box mag. Where you load in from the top and have to cycle the bolt to remove the rounds. BDL is the next step up, with a hinged floor plate. You press the button in the trigger guard to release the floor plate and the rounds dump out. Then there’s CDL. It’s the same as the bdl, but the overall finish is much nicer.

~~To change from .30-06 to a 300PRC, you’d need to buy a new action. The .30-06 is a long action cartridge and the 300 is a magnum length cartridge.~~ This is apparently inaccurate!

Well this got off topic fast. Just want to know what is needs to be changed to swap cartridges in internal mags and if there is any cartridges that can be interchanged and why.
