I’ve been shooting trap at my local club every Wednesday for the last few weeks. Only shot trap 1x prior to this.

I’m outshooting the old fudds by 4-5 clays with my Mossberg 500 pretty consistently.

Enjoying and competing are different. Going out and shooting with buddies. That’s a perfect gun for it. Pumps are to slow if you wanted to compete

    True statement.

I use to race cars on the weekends. Good drivers in junk cars would show up and smoke the guys with fancy equipment. Shooting is about the same.

Note that I’m not making any reference to your equipment.

Pumps are fine for trap. If you shoot skeet or another event with doubles you will want a faster gun.

Fudds occupy the Trap and Skeet community more than most other parts of the gun community. Many trap and skeet ranges will have rules against pump action shotguns or shotguns with pistol grips

A longer break-barrel shotgun will work a lot better for shooting trap than a pump. With a lighter action you get a higher rotational inertia to weight ratio, that’s why they’re used for trap shooting.
It doesn’t need to be anything fancy, even a $100 single-barrel shotgun is better than what you have there as long as you’re shooting single clays.

Uncontroversial opinion: A more expensive gun is only as good as the shooter.

Good for you. I used an 870, 18″ with Poly choke. Consistently shot high 90’s. pissed off the Paratzi, Kragogh owners. Was bested by a farm boy with a Red Label, took oit 100 straight. Seen many shoot HRs and do just fin.
