Different model of G17 Gen 5s How to get the right one

So after some extensive research I’m seeing info about different types of Gen 5 G17s. A release model and one updated model.

One with front serrations and magwell cutout and straight nose frame

Second version has no front slide serrations, no magwell cutout and the frame is rounded the same as the front of the slide.

Do you know anything about these? Very little info is published about them. How do you find out what to call which one?

What is your definition of straight nose frame? The original Gen5 G17s came with no front serrations and the half-moon cut out at the bottom of the front strap. The new ones have front serrations but no half-moon cutout at the bottom of the front strap. I’m not sure what you mean by “straight nose frame” but all Gen5s will have a light rail.

Unless you’re buying used or “like new” or you see an oddball at a gun show no one has touched you’re probably only going to find recent production. That goes for most guns right now.
