    *Thought Experiment*

I just discovered that reassembling a pistol with a snap caps in the chamber is easier than with a clear chamber. This works for tilting-barrel locked pistols.

The snap caps holds the barrel in the locked position and thus is unable to fall out of the locked position and move forward. The barrel is in place and will not fall out of place even without the recoil spring installed.

Did this with a Springfield Hellcat myself. Not that it’s difficult on guns with captive recoil springs, just was curious.

Just hold the slide upside down? Gravity holds the barrel in place.

This feels like you’re solving a problem that doesn’t exist. I have field stripped and reassembled my G19.5 dozens of times and have never had an issue with the barrel that prevented me from reassembly at all. As a matter of fact, the only thing that’s ever been a problem is when I don’t seat the recoil spring properly or don’t line up the slide on the lower tracts properly (both of which are user error generally from going too fast). I would recommend field stripping your weapon a bit more to get more familiar with it. If you’re having trouble with the barrel at any point, ask yourself why. These guns are designed to be put back together with an empty chamber. I can’t imagine adding a snap cap is truly beneficial.

Is it hard on anything like the extractor to do this?

With the exception of my lever action, I have had the complete opposite experience with that.
