I have a Ruger American in 308 that’s pretty accurate. I do feel pretty limited with it though. I don’t like the stock and the barrel is thin. I was thinking about upgrading but it kind of defeats the purpose of me buying a cheap $350 rifle if I’m just going to spend hundreds more on a chassis, heavy barrel, trigger, etc. Another problem is it shoots everything except for match grade stuff pretty poorly. I’ve tried most of the standard cheaper hunting/plinking ammo as well as 7.62 surplus and it’s a 2+ MOA gun unless I use FGGM or Hornady Match which generally runs 1+ dollar a round.
Because of all of that I’m looking at upgrading to something like a Savage 110 Tactical or a Bergara B14 HMR. I’m also considering 6.5 CM. Do nicer guns still perform decently well (MOA or sub MOA) with cheap ammo, or will I still find myself having to use match ammo?
