Do people not put red dots on carry handguns?
Hey GM!
Got a Vortex Viper for my newly purchased Glock 19 and am a bit disappointed. From what I see now, you would have to turn the sight on everytime before use. I was looking for something that would be motion activated.
Even with something like the viper, I can’t do that. Evidently it is quite unrealistic for personal defense then. So iron sights it is now?

Red dots are the future so now is a good time if any to change. Holosuns 507C and 508Ts are great for the price. It has a shake awake feature so I don’t have to worry about turning on the dot every time. On top of it being solar powered the battery also lasts 2-4 years so no worrying about dead batteries. If anything does happen you can always fall back on the backup irons

RMR and others offer always on. Shake awake isn’t necessarily a great idea for a carry gun. Would be coming on all the time. The battery life for an always on RMR is 2yrs.

Carry would be irons only for me. Close ranges, and excess equipment is just extra weight and bulk. I Train with irons mostly anyway. Rmr for nightstand,OWB,duty, great outdoors is more practical. Mission should dictate and “carry optics” still have to be carried so you kit up and burn your optic on its lowest setting you can see, or just use co-witness irons through your glass as a rule and train for shooting this way. the price of admission.

The Vortex Viper is a pretty budget dot. There are a lot of dots that are motion activated, having “shake awake” features.

I carry a G45 with a holosun 507c on it with co witnessed irons.
