Hey all – my old faithful salomons just aren’t doing it for me anymore. Something about them (stiffness maybe, maybe the fit has changed, not sure) just isn’t working for me anymore, and they now really exacerbate a lower leg disability. Don’t get blown up, kids.

I haven’t had to look at new boots in years – figured I’d do some consumer canvassing here to see what I should start trying on. I’m used to asolos, lowas, salomons, etc but I’m sure there’s a ton of “world’s best mountain boot”s that I’m not aware of.

I use the Zamberlan Smilodon because they fit me best but Crispi, Lowa, Schnee’s, etc. all make good boots. I’d be prepared to spend around $400 for a good pair of boots depending on how hard you hunt. If you’re just walking a few hundred feet to a tree stand, then just buy whatever but if you’re hunting backcountry, then you’ll want serious boots with good insoles (superfeet).

If you’re running Salomon I’m assuming you’ve got a narrow foot like myself so my recommendations are based on that.

Heavy duty go up the side of the mountain- Hanweg

Lighter weight sneaker feel style- La Sportiva.

I’ve got both, I use the La Sportivas for early season or fast moving e.g goose hunting, Turkey, whitetail, then switch to Hanwegs for later season or when carrying weight sheep or elk hunting.

I have had Inov-8s as well and they are beyond fantastic, ultra light, super grippy and my god comfy
But they are not waterproof by any means

White Boots Spokane Wa. These are custom made. I’ve had a pair for 40 years. They rebuilt my boots twice so far. I’ve hunted the world with them.
