Nice. Just got my first baitcaster yesterday, bought it used from an older gentleman who has given up fishing (killer deal). I played with it all day yesterday. Feels like a videogame with all the knobs and technicality. Then I launched a frog into a tree and spend the better part of an hour undoing the backlash. Incredible how fishing line just loves to form knots.

Can’t beat a fury! I have a spinning one and recommend them all the time. I’m slowly converting to dobyns only. Their handles, reel seats, guides, attention to detail, and overall balance completely rock.

That’s awesome! I have two but I want a left handed reel. That one looks great!

Killer choices. The Dobyns rod rabbit hole is a fun one. Started with a Fury 2 years ago, currently have 7 Dobyns rods in different lines. I can assure you tho that the 734c will get most techniques done for you.

If this is your first Baitcaster and you are jot experienced enough. I suggest you put Monofilament on the reel until you master it. Backlash with Braided line is a MONSTER !

Are you left handed or did you get a lefty because that’s how you retrieve your spinning reel. Not trying to be a dick just curious. I used spinning setups for years before I bought my first bait caster and I have always wondered why I use opposite side retrieves

I have a few of this exact combo. Can’t beat a fuego for the money! Honestly I prefer my fuegos over most of my more expensive reels

Good choice! That 734 is a great rod.

Academy is running clearance and you can get a $9 rod and $19 bait cast that seem to be decent quality.

Here’s a few tips. Make sure you’re casting with your index finger on the trigger so that you can feather the spool properly when casting. This puts your thumb in the proper position behind the spool. When going for distance using an overhead cast, use three to four feet of line hanging from your rod tip so that the energy is transferred more slowly (think trebuchet). If you do these two things you’ll be a pro in no time. Tight lines out there!

Love my Daiwa Fuego CT! So many nice design features for the price.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Dobyn rods. I’m still rocking mostly UglySticks, but got a taste of nicer rods from a BPS Pro Qualifier combo and totally get it.
