I shot clays for the first time this winter and loved it. I would like to get into it so I need my first shotgun. Any suggestions? I just finished college so my wallet is tight but I would save up for something. I also might move down to California so I am unaware if there are any funky gun laws which I assume there are.

I live in California and every gun mentioned in this thread is perfectly legal here. What is your actual budget for this and which clay sports do you shoot (plan to shoot)?

If just trap you can just grab a maverick 88 with the field barrel and be pretty comfortable. Even can shoot skeet just have to run the action which is a challenge but I really like doing it. Then later on if you really want something buy a nicer gun and keep the maverick as a spare for when you bring people shooting. Always nice to have a spare so youre not passing around a gun, or swap the barrel for something shorter and use for HD.

Stoeger M3000 Sporting might be worth considering.
Versatile, relatively inexpensive, looks good, and has good reviews.
