Hello everyone, I’m new to hunting I have experience in the outdoors as well as basic tracking training. I’ve been researching hunting, game processing, I’ve scouted the area a few times, the first time I didnt know I was going to try hunt black bears as I just got my hunting license for my territory that day. I live in northern B.C, theres some beautiful country I’m looking forward to hunting, I’m also interested in hunting duck, grouse, rabbit, deer, maybe a moose if I win the lottery, my mom talks about goat there maybe something for us to try as well. I’ve dreamed of doing this my whole life and super excited, I love to have safety and contingency plans, analyzing details of what the naked eye doesnt see. my firearms are a Lee Enfield no. 1 Mk 3, mossberg maverick 88 security and field barrel, savage 64. I hope to grain knowledge share experiences. Thank you everyone and happy hunting.

    Best of luck.

Pay attention to the wind. If they scent you, odds are they’re gone.

Take your time glassing those south facing grassy slopes. Sometimes they’re a lot harder to spot than you’d think.

Early in the morning is the best time to hunt. Sunset is a close second. You can find them during the day, but they’re nowhere near as active.

Rule of thumb; when you shoot, keep shooting until the bear is down. Tracking a wounded bear through thick brush is an intense experience and if you can drop them before they find a stand of trees to dive into you’ll have a much better time.

I dunno what the salmon runs are like in BC, but if you can get your bear before they start eating all of those spawned out fish they taste worlds better.

Related- If you get the chance to get after goat, do it.
