I’m turning 18 soon and I’ve known a pistol would be one of the first things I do but handguns you can only get legally 18-20 from a private seller. I’ve heard this is very common and isn’t illegal to do but I’m confused what may happen if I got pulled over with the pistol in my car. If this is a problem with the law is there any way to get a license around it?

GuestJune 13, 2021 at 12:11 pmTake a gun safety class, the instructor will educate you on the local laws. How you transport in a vehicle varies by region. If you add your location someone can give you more specific info here.

GuestJune 13, 2021 at 12:11 pmHaving it in the cab of your car, or generally within reach, is considered carrying concealed. It should be unloaded, cased and if possible, in your trunk until A) you are old enough and get a concealed carry permit, or B) your state becomes a constitutional carry state.
Is it stupid? Yes. But we’ve seen people get dragged off to jail for plenty of stupid reasons, so just add this one to the list, I guess, and remember it when it’s time to vote.

GuestJune 13, 2021 at 12:11 pmYou can’t carry it (depending on where you live). So if you plan on having it in the car to transport it would look bad if it was within arms reach. There aren’t really licenses for that type of thing either. If you live in a constitutional carry state none of this is a problem for you

GuestJune 13, 2021 at 12:11 pmTransport the firearm in a lawful manner. If the police ask to search your car, politely refuse, as you should be doing anyways.
I know in FL and TX you can keep it loaded in your glove box and you’re kosher. Not sure about GA though. A safe bet would be keep it unloaded in a container separate from all ammo.
