My idea is to eventually take a classic design like the MP 40 and modify it function with a closed bolt system so the ATF doesn’t murder me for Constructive intent for building a machine gun, or some nonsense.
Next I want to make a trigger pack similar to a Franklin armory binary trigger, or fostech echo or maybe even something like the rare breed forced reset trigger, to allow the gun to function at a rate of fire more well suited for the design while still being semi auto.
I have some experience (detailed down below) but I’d like to start with a design that is more simple than not, as I would like to gain more experience before taking on this task. Maybe the Mac 11?
Im always learning more about firearms but so far I’ve done 80%ers and 3D printed frames (currently making the FGC 9 MK2). More recently I’ve taken to making guns from scratch starting with the “dangerous” 12 gauge pipe shotguns and progressing to crude sheet metal 22lr handguns and single shot breach and bolt action rifles I’ve been gaining more confidence with tooling and wanted to set a new goal to reach for, preferably without killing myself shooting the damn things.
I very strongly want to do something relating to this subject. But it is currently beyond my capabilities any advice of what gun design to start tinkering with along with any general advice.
More importantly how to keep the ATF from killing me or my dog? As these would be for my personal use as I am not a FFL 07.

The problem with reproduction guns is that tooling up to make them costs too much money. Not many people would line up to shell out good $$$ on an MP40 clone, especially because it would likely cost between $1,500 and $2,000 to make a proper functioning one. The GSG copy isn’t super high quality, that’s why it’s $400.
