Improvised/DiY fixed barrel spacers?

I saw a video of a guy proposing to use a copper 3/4″ to 5/8″ pipe reducer coupler. He posted a later one with aluminum and steel pipes.
Any reason not to go with the $1 solution for many vs $50-$60 for one?
