I work in the IT field and I’m happy with it as a career choice. But I’ve always been interested in guns and know that SOT holders do machine gun demonstrations for LEOs and members of the public. It’s not every day that people are requesting supervised machine gun shooting sessions. It’s a more sporadic thing. Is that a side gig that would be at least mildly profitable (breaking even with the ATF and state dept annual costs)? I work 5 days a week and have 2 days off. I’m wondering if that’s something I could do during my off days or if it would be a waste of time for someone who isn’t all-in the gun industry.

EDIT: I live in Pennsylvania if that matters

As one of the largest MG Rental businesses on the East Coast (also in PA), consider these things:

1: Getting ammo in 2021, and possibly 2022, will be very difficult for new FFL’s.

2: Do you have a place to commercially shoot MGs?

3: Verify your local zoning allows you to have a manufacturing FFL 07 / SOT 02.

4: consider cost per year for FFL, SOT, and ITAR is around $2,750 plus insurance is the true cost. Our first few years we paid $8,000+ per year.

Day time IT type stuff, night time FFL/SOT in SEPA. Try finding a local FFL/SOT and working with them. Get added to their FFL, get added to the SPT when they reup in July. Save on expenses if they trust you/you trust them see what it’s like for a year. What I do complements an established dealer monthly and doesn’t step on each others toes. Having already established industry connections is huge.

Full time Systems Admin / FFL 07 / SOT. If you want it, get it. It’s profitable and I just do it as a side gig. If nothing more, you get the suppressors you’re waiting for immediately after the Form 3 is approved which, nowadays is taking about 5 days. What do you do in IT?

01/SOT in komiefornia it opens the door to get things you free loving Americans take for granted LOL. I’m trying to put together a demonstration (suppressors) for our new local police department SWAT.
