yeah, it’s called “bass thumb”, and it means you’re doing something right.

    Humble brag or honest question?

Yes, it’s normal if you’re lipping a bunch of bass. If you keep it up, eventually that thumb will get tougher and it’ll stop looking like that.

I’m new to fishing and have been fishing a lot this past week, in turn lipping a number of bass. I’m wondering if this is a normal occurrence and/or if it’s safe ? Also, i’m using a bait caster and thumb the spool when casting , would that have anything to do with it?

Instead of measuring dicks with co workers we’d compare bass thumbs on Monday’s

Consult a physician immediately and give gps coordinates to this deadly fishery

For the most part it’s safe, it’s only unsafe if it gets too deep and allows for infection if you touch something nasty

If you’re putting your thumb in a lot of Larry’s then yes. Those sandpaper teeth will do that. Nice little badge of honor.

For those in the know, when you’re asked did ya catch anything , just show your thumb.

Bass thumb! A well seasoned angler has a thumb you could stick on a hot grittle and not get burnt

When you lip them (strong), get their tails out of the water ASAP. That seems to reduce their thrashing quite a bit.
