Kimber vs tikka
Posted by stock_highway_4811 on August 6, 2022 at 4:35 pmIf you were to buy a new bolt action in .308 which would you choose? A kimber 84M or a Tikka T3
Definitely leaning more towards the Kimber so far

GuestAugust 6, 2022 at 4:35 pmI’ve never had any issues with tikka. Kimber rifles seem to be hit or miss. Unless there is a specific feature you want from Kimber I’d definitely go for the Tikka.

GuestAugust 6, 2022 at 4:35 pmA Kimber Montana is a great rifle, and will probably be one of my next purchases (after I finish some upgrades to a model 70 I got cheap). Tikkas are great rifles that shoot very consistently good, you don’t have to play “kimber roulette” with them. That said, I prefer the Tikka in a long action chambering, since you have a long action even with short action chamberings.

GuestAugust 6, 2022 at 4:35 pmAs someone who has a rifle in both I prefer the Kimber to the Tikka as a whole. The Tikka seems to have a slightly smoother action but everything else goes to the Kimber. Don’t get me wrong both are great rifles but if I had to pick one i’d go with the Kimber.

GuestAugust 6, 2022 at 4:35 pmLove my kimber. Everyone raves about the tikka, and it is fantastic for a budget rifle. But it does feel like a budget rifle especially next to a kimber

GuestAugust 6, 2022 at 4:35 pmI have owned and shot both quite a bit, in my case a tikka t3 lite and 3 variations of Kimber rifles, the 84m, ascent and one more I can’t remember the exact model. I, personally, don’t really like the kimber rifles all that much. They’re not bad by any stretch and most people seem to like them a lot more than I do. The tikka synthetic stocks are pretty lame, this is one area the kimber rifles are demonstrably better in my opinion. I cannot state how much I dislike the shape and style of trigger the tikka rifles have, the weight of pull and break are good, but that shape and smooth face drive me crazy.
It’s really all personal preference in the end, get your hands on both and see what you like best.

GuestAugust 6, 2022 at 4:35 pmI have a Kimber in 308 bought it 2 years ago. The magazine is a little tricky but you can get used to it. If weight is a concern then I would go with the kimber if not I would go with the tikka. I have shot multiple tikkas and the action is smoother but it is quite a bit heavier. I don’t think the hunter stock is much of any better than the tikkas I have handled but it is definitely lighter.

GuestAugust 6, 2022 at 4:35 pmI would advise maybe taking a look at a Bergara B14. I just picked one up here in Finland and I almost got the T3x.
The Bergara was like, 500 euros cheaper, had a better stock, came cerakoted and stainless and had an amazingly smooth action and a crisp CRISP trigger
Honestly it felt so much nicer and a much better deal.
I took it to the range yesterday and shot .3 moa with sako 147gr fmj

GuestAugust 6, 2022 at 4:35 pmCan’t comment on a Kimber but the tikka t3x has the best action I’ve felt on a factory gun under $2k.

GuestAugust 6, 2022 at 4:35 pmNo experience with a tikka, but my kimber 84M in 7mm-08 is the smoothest bolt action I’ve shot. It’s a nice lightweight gun and can shoot sub moa

GuestAugust 6, 2022 at 4:35 pmI love my kimber, shooting sub zero even after cutting down my barrel. It is a long action 8400 but still. Controlled feed and ejection are also sweet for hunting. Can be as quiet as you need and in any position you may find yourself in.
Check east coast gun shops. When they buy kimbers, they tend to sit on the books a long time and you can get a deal. I found mine, new. At list price from 2016 (last year). It is a discontinued color on the mountain ascent, which is how I dated the rifle. Got them to knock another 300 off the price and walked out well under current msrp.

GuestAugust 6, 2022 at 4:35 pmI have both, the kimber is way better, i have the mountain ascent in 7mag, holds the tightest group out of all my rifles
