I managed to get cci large magnum rifle primers for about 85 bucks for a 1000, the only large rifle primers I’ve found in stores for a very long time. I was wondering if there would be any major issues reloading regular 30-06 with them? I’ve only ever used regular ones so I don’t know if there will be any issues with it

Send it. Have loaded a BUNCH of .30-06 and 6.5 CM with magnum primers and no issues.

All I use on 308 and 30 06 is magnum primers. Did load development, ended up in the same nodes.

The never ending question. “Can I swap out primers?”

Some say no, some say yes, some say maybe.

    Should you? No.

    Can you? Yes.

Will it work correctly for your application? Maybe.

Will you blow yourself up? Odds are slim, but not zero.

    Do your own due diligence.

Most recommend 10% below starting grain. I’ve never noticed a huge difference in velocity or pressure signs. When in doubt start small, work up.

I’ve used large rifle and large rifle magnum in several “standard” rifle loads with 30-06 and .308 with zero issues. I just start a tiny bit lower and work it up again.

I’ve been using CCI #34, which are supposed to be magnum primers to load 30-30, 303 British, 8mm Mauser, and 7.7 Japanese. I worked up new loads, and I’m not pushing any limits. Have been able to get some great accuracies with 8mm Mauser and 30-30, haven’t worked enough 7.7 or 303 to get a judge of accuracy. I don’t have a chrono btw

I’m jealous. I’ve been looking for CCI 450 LRP for weeks.

Magnums just burn hotter. You won’t notice any difference at all in a cartridge that big unless you happen to be shooting in the winter. Then you’ll get a bit more consistent results.
