GuestNovember 13, 2021 at 4:40 amHello first time posting but figured this might interest a few people. I’m testing IMR 4166 in the two calibers listed in the title with one load already tested for the 8mm Mauser with very good results. I’m currently on deck to test the 7.62x54r load in the near future. If any of this interests anybody, let me know and I will update with my results as I go forth before I get all winded with all my details as of now (unless that’s something people want to know now)

GuestNovember 13, 2021 at 4:40 amHad a pound I used to load my 6.5 Grendel 140 accubonds (definitely over weight for Grendel) and this powder was very extremely consistent however I needed a compressed load to get any kind of decent velocity out of it. ( and that was still something like 2400fps) It’s just a bit too slow of a powder for my application and desired efficiency. Bet it would shine in a .270 or other large necked down “over bore” cartridge.

GuestNovember 13, 2021 at 4:40 amBeen getting real good results with 168gr in 308 Win over 43.2gr of 4166. With a 24″ barrel, I’m getting an average of 2715 fps with a 2.75 fps SD and 6 fps ES.
Echoing another comment here that this powder is performing it’s best compressed.

GuestNovember 13, 2021 at 4:40 am54r using 175 gr SMK’s with 46.7 gr N150 shoots great in my M39 Mosin. You loading for a 91/30?

GuestNovember 13, 2021 at 4:40 amNice! I’ve been using both formed -06 brass and PPU 8×57 brass and loading it with 178gr .323 sst and 200gr nosler(?) Soft points over Ramshot Big Game out of my un-fucked-with ’93 Turkish action and barrel that I dropped into a new stock…it shoots 6-7″ groups at 200yards, which is more than good enough for the hunting rifle it’ll only ever be for me. One day I’ll take the time to work up a real accuracy oriented load and see what it’ll actually do…(I stopped testing after 1 quick ladder with the 1 powder and 2 projectile options when it met my “minute of blacktail deer” requirement)
