Monster fish
I just met a monster fish. Snapped my leader three separate times at the double uni connection, bent a hook and got off, and bit half my bait off a couple times. At one point when I was tying a new leader on it jumped 20ft from the bank I was on.
I found him on the north side of a local lake near me, an area that is seldom fished due to the mile hike in. It’s also the location where a feeder stream comes in. I took my kayak out to the spot yesterday and about an hour in I saw him jumping and he looked huge and definitely a bass (had to be him, was in the exact spot I first encountered him). Got him to hit a top water frog but he didn’t hold onto it and wouldn’t hit anything after that.
I was using a spinning reel with 20 lb braid and a 12lb leader. I got a MH baitcaster yesterday and put 30 lb braid with a 15 lb fluoro leader, may up to a twenty.
Just wanted to share. I am psyched to get back out and get another chance at him! Anybody else have experience with smart monster bass? Also, I have only been fishing a few months so open to any advice!

Don’t use a leader with a frog. Just tie straight to braid. You’ll get a better hookset and won’t lose as many fish, including Moby Bass that you’re describing.

Work on your drags settings. Never crank against a fish pulling drag. Use the rod to move the fish not the reel. A reel is for casting and retrieving line, it’s not a winch to pull a fish in.

if youre bending hooks out and snapping leaders it sounds like you need your drag turned down. Also like other guy said no leader w frog
