Yesterday I was using a torch to heat some steel I was bluing, and I got a little careless and ignited a couple acetone soaked rags that were nearby on the bench, which went up with a big flourish. I grabbed a welding glove, grabbed the pile of flaming rags, opened the door to the shop, and tossed them out into the driveway just as my parents were arriving for lunch.

They already think I’m some sort of mad scientist, but arriving at my house only to see me lob a literal ball of fire down the driveway must only confirm their suspicions.

The gun came out pretty nice though. Another coat or two of tung oil on the furniture and I’ll slap it back together later this week.

Sometimes I wish I could be happy just buying a gun and running with it. The constant roller coaster of wanting to upgrade parts or tear down and rebuild is exhausting

I have terrible impulse control. I was filling out paperwork for a pair of pistols, when something caught my eye. I ended up adding an 1889 Bodeo to my purchase, but I got it for $200. Now I need to find some 10.35 ammo.

I also found a super neat fudd shop that even Tab might like. Wall to wall black powder and repros. They have an all original 1836 rifle for ~$2500 that’s pretty tempting. I may wind up picking up a Pietta revolver despite knowing nothing about black powder. But I have never seen so many flintlocks. They even have a pistol range and a BP only rifle range, $15 all day. BP to 100m, pistol at 10/15/25. Is this how I become a fudd?

    Washington gun laws suck.

Moronic 1: Took a nap at 4pm, woke up at 11pm. 7 Hour nap, very nice, idk what will become of my sleep schedule.

Moronic 2: Dropped my Aero upper on my foot 8 hours ago, I can still feel the bruise.

Friend agreed to buy my upper on the condition that I build the rest of the rifle for him. I sold the upper to him for $250, probably could have made like $300 or more privately but oh well, friend prices. He gave me $150 down payment to start building the lower, so I’ll be running out to the LGS tomorrow, thinking of picking up an Aero M4E1 stripped lower and working from there. I know he can legally possess a gun because he has a CCW permit.

Sold some random AK furniture I had laying around, I am successfully de-cluttered a bit and $100 to the good. It was a cash deal, I’ve started the old practice of physically squirreling away cash obtained through little deals like that in a growler to fund an as-of-yet undecided gun purchase. I’m thinking a can, it’s effing time and there’s a shop with a SilencerCo kiosk near me. I want to see just how easy/hands-off the process is for an uninitiated buyer, despite people saying there are better ways to do it.

Had to trip out to Erie on Saturday, and play autojumble. A dude’s friend died and left him with a mixture of Triumph, Jaguar, and Buick Riveria parts that absolutely [*were not* sorted.]( It was actually a good exercise for me, some of the Jag stuff looks very much like TR4 parts, so making sure to catch that and leave it back was an exercise. Also got to see some authentic local vintage pin-up material, so not a wasted trip.

    work related

got flagged down for a stab wound, after calling 911 i froze on applying medical due to trying to figure out which gauze to use

after my supervisor applied gauze i unfroze fully to wrap the wound

as it relates to firearms, if you have a trauma kit remember to train on patching wounds cause it goes away (tccc trained in 2015-2017 for rotc)

I think I know why my house doesn’t cool down as much as it should: the soffit vents are mostly covered with insulation. Pretty much the entirety of my garage attic has them all covered and I have to assume my other attic does as well. Now I need to figure out how to pull it back without getting a nail to the head. I also need to do it in the morning when it’s cooled down enough not to sweat my ass off.

I need to buy some extra extractors since I’m sure I’ll fuck up 1 or 2.

I have my own for today!

Took a Carbine Class yesterday. 6 hours on the range. The original forecast was for cloudy and rainy. I didn’t really pay a ton of attention to it until the morning of and they had changed it to sunny 90+ degrees.

So well shit I wore shirts and a muscle shirt and did sunblock at least once an hour. Somehow I’m still burnt to a cinder. Both my arms are fried and sore to move.

I’ll be taking cold showers and slathering ocean potion all this week.

The class was fun and challenging. We had the most switched on woman shooter I’ve ever had the pleasure of shooting with. She was running an AR-9 and made hits out to 150ish yards with it. It was really impressive.

I ran the AK with the corrosive Vympel and it ran flawlessly. I do need to change the battery in the Dot however as it’s starting to get dim. Though it was sunny as hell this weekend.

Robskis front sight trick works amazing on an AK for close up shooting. I didn’t even use the dot for the lose in stuff just the front sight.

u/sgt_s_laughter I did take the VZ out and ran it with both Tula and Monarch. Gun had been sitting in the sun all day and I ran 90 rounds through it in rapid fire and I didn’t get any pierces however I did get a ton of cratering on Tula and none on the Monarch.

Both scummy and moronic – Dumping trash on the roadside. Some scumbag(s) tossed out three bags of their garbage 100yds from our gate. I’d rather they’d have just tossed their shit into my dumpster because the predictable thing happened and the scavengers got to it first, scattering it all to hell. I fucking hate humans sometimes. For BS like this we should bring back the ol’ town square pillory treatment.

[Why must you record everything we do, human?]( This was early around 8:30a and it was already 85deg.

I had just installed a gas pedal/thumb rest onto the side of the Cz457, because of course wannabePRS^TM . Eager to try it I gathered up the stuff to shoot off of the tripod to the berm behind the house. I opened the back door halfway and grabbed the tripod and rifle, and just as I approached the door, the breeze closed it shut again. So I, *a moron*, reasoned that it would be better to take the tripod out and set that up first. I propped the rifle against the door frame and reassured myself that I’d totally remember that it was there on the way back in.

GUESS WHAT HAPPENED U GUYTHS. My big dumb clown shoe clipped the butt on the way back in and **WHACK** that rifle slid down the wall and slapped the floor smackdown style. It was dark in that part of the hallway so I didn’t see exactly how it fell, but it sounded terrible. Stood frozen for at least 5sec internally chastising myself for doing exactly what I told myself I wouldn’t do.

Know what, though? It was fine. Absolutely fine. I guess my cheap vinyl wood flooring has enough cushion to it that its zero was unaffected. Not a mark on it, I don’t understand how.

In other news I’ve got yet another goddamn skunk hanging around the house and trying to get under it. Trap is set

    She's shy sometimes

Shipped back the Benelli comfortech stock, and ordered a comfortech pad – pad + pistol-grip-stock that came with the Benelli was about perfect length, and should be a bit better.

Also decided to try the Blitzkrieg hydraulic buffer for my AR9 – the maker said it should be a straight drop-in for my current setup.

Pad, buffer, and shipping all end up costing less than the returned stock and shim kit, so I’ll end up spending about $100 less than planned. (still 250-ish?)

Was literally tightening down the very last screw on the Deagle scope setup when [this]( happened. RIP. I want to sit here and blame the cheapy Weaver rings but 3 out of 4 screws torqued in just fine. I didn’t do the cleanest job shortening the new screws, I guess the last one was bad enough that it damaged the threads. It’s a shame, those Weaver rings are one of the lowest profile rings available. I need that low profile because the base is so tall already, I can’t afford any more height-over-bore. But they just don’t have the strength for this application.

Replacement PS3 is in and working a lot better, but these guys forgot to wipe the last user’s info. Email, password, wouldn’t be surprised if their credit card was still on *there too. Lucky them I’m not an asshole.

Don’t customize your AR… if you are going to do this. Might not be a bad buy for the right price, though. That Geissele Mk3 rail is probably worth around $400.

I wouldn’t be so hard on yourself, you’ll do better on your next build.
