So I’m originally from Louisiana but I am stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. I finally got settled in and I’m going back home to visit pretty soon. My understanding is that I need to fill out a form 5320.20 in order to bring my SBR to NC with me. Any insight into the process; how long it takes, things to consider when flying with it, do I need approval and to hear back before I travel with it, etc.

You can email the form to the ATF and they will approve and snail mail back. Saves a stamp.

Also, if your sbr was a pistol prior to being an sbr, you can configure back into a pistol and it’s not an NFA item. So you could bring your now braced pistol while waiting on the form.

Can’t travel until you get approval. Approval can take a month or two. Set the time for a year, need to redo the form once a year

Make sure you follow proper travel rules when flying with it

Also if anybody has any insight on rules applying to NFA items on base or storing them in the armory. Also if I move again soon would I have to do another form 5320.20
