Just picked up a PTR 91 GIR, and am measuring due to EXTREMELY stiff cocking. Way more stiff than my previous PTR. My bolt gap is at .017” however my cocking tube gap is .025”+. Could this low gap in the cocking tube be causing the extremely stiff charging? If so, what is the best solution?

Get an extended charging handle from hkparts. I have the same rifle and it takes some muscle power to move the charging handle. It’s an infantry mans battle rifle from mid century. It’s gonna take some effort.

Irrelevant to your question, but where did you pick up this rifle? I’ve been searching online for weeks and can’t find one.

The stiffness you’re feeling in the PTR91/G3 cocking handle is normal and comes from the latch on the bolt carrier. It’s there to prevent bolt bounce and the spring force needs to be strong/stiff or it will fail to engage reliably when cycling.

Edit: This is what I’m referring to
