Hey y’all, I’d love to get into kayak fishing, most of the bodies are small lakes or gentle rivers in Northwestern PA. Getting out onto lake Erie would be the most intense.

I would prefer something I can put on the rack on my Forester. I go about 250lbs and would like to be able to bring one of my daughters (5 and 6 years old) so a 350-400lb rating and a sit on top style with enough space for the 2 of us. Beyond these few specs, I am fairly clueless as to what I need.

I nearly bought one from Walmart for $500 but I wanted to ask the “experts” on reddit. budget is $1500, but would be a lot more comfortable keeping it under $1,000.
