  • Question about signing RPQ form

Posted by soulshot96 on August 6, 2022 at 6:27 am

I’m currently neck deep in my first foray into the mess that is the NFA. Just got my Trust signed and notarized today, got my digital passport photos, got my fingerprint cards in and started, all that jazz…but my dumb ass didn’t realize I needed to also print, sign and scan the RPQ form too. I assumed that was apart of the eForm and it could be done via the ATF portal.

The issue? I currently don’t have a printer/scanner (I know, I know, but I’m very limited on space in my current living situation, and the housing market is a shitshow, so it is what it is for now), so every time I need to do something like this, I have to make a trip to my local FedEx (which is already closed for the day). Now, I was hoping to get most of this squared away tonight, maybe even file it…so my question is this; has anyone signed these forms as PDF’s with something like a wacom stylus, apple pencil, etc? I have access to that and could do it in seconds, but I’m just looking for some feedback on if this is acceptable or not.

I only even ask because I’ve heard of people esigning these with docusign, but couldn’t find any real info on what specifically is acceptable.

Edit; while I doubt they would be able to even tell that I used an Apple Pencil for signing this, especially since it would be scanned again anyway, I’m going to do it by the book, at least for this first one. Definitely need to try to find a place to stick a damned printer/scanner though…especially since I do plan to get some cans. This is too big of a pain in the ass lol.

I’m not sure how that would go as an individual and can’t speak to that *but* I do know that we actually had to get a variance to do signature pad signatures. From the variance received one of the requirements is ‘The electronic signature must accurately portray the signatory’s live handwritten signature (i.e. such as the signature on the person’s identification document).’ It also specifically states ‘Stored digital signatures or a replicated “type font” signature will not be utilized at any time for any Federal form’.

If it were me as a highly paranoid individual… I’d print, sign, and scan.

Shit, just found out I’m going back to print the damned cover letter to mail with my fingerprints lmao. Forgot about that.

Still, could cut out at least one trip with this, if it’s acceptable that is.

Why even gamble with it. Not worth having to re-submit everything including fingerprints if it gets disapproved.
