I did a lot of research and read some extensive studies on safes. Most gun safes are considered “residential storage containers” and can be opened pretty easily by someone who knows it is there and can bring some tools. Short of buying a proper, actual gun “safe,” which will cost you like five grand and it’ll weigh over a ton for a small one, the Liberty 1776 series is one of the better safes you can buy. It has thicker 10 gauge steel instead of 12 gauge, and has locking bars on the sides and top of the door where most safes just have them on the side. That allows a thief to stick a pry bar along the top of the door and force it open.

A majority of the bulk of a gun safe comes from the thick fiber board inside that is supposed to make it fire safe. Not anything that prevents a thief.

I’d also recommend not going larger than a 30 gun. I have a 48 gun safe and it weighs 850lbs and is fucking enormous. I wish I had gotten two smaller and easier to move safes.

After 6 years it is time to upgrade to a real safe with some capacity I’ve looked at a few brands like Liberty and the ones at Tractor Supply but I’d like to hear what you guys have.

Best gun safe I have seen is an inground vault disguised as a front porch slab.
Just jump in the deep end it will raise your property values.
