I want to do an activity with my mother this summer, and since she was in the army we thought target shooting would be both fun and bring back memories for her. She owns an sks and I want a pistol. I obtained my restricted firearms licence (essentially a handgun permit here in Canada) and I’m now ready to buy myself a pistol. I’m a broke kid working a part time job so it has to be inexpensive and chambered in 9mm. The Glock 48 caught my eye yesterday. I just think it looks nice and since it has a 10 round capacity so there isn’t any wasted space in the mag, unlike many guns here sadly. Also, since it’s a glock, the aftermarket is enormous and spare parts are cheap. That means I could have a lot of fun tinkering with it. They also have a reputation to be idiot proof. The gun would cost me $666 (How cool is that? I’m not kidding, look it up!).
So does anyone have experience with that gun?

Edit: just noticed you’re in Canada, probably a reasonable price then.

GuestJune 14, 2021 at 6:38 pmI own one and it’s a great firearm. The slightly longer barrel than the 43 is nice. I’ve hit steel out to 100 yards with it. If you get the Shield Arms mags, you can put 15 rounds in it.

GuestJune 14, 2021 at 6:38 pmI own a 48 and use it for carry. It’s essentially a skinny 19 with less ammo. As far as aftermarket goes, the only thing I recommend replacing on it is the sights. Break the trigger in before you drop cash on an aftermarket one. Shield Arms makes excellent, albeit pricey, magazines that up the capacity to 15. I own 3, and have never had any issues.
But… if magazine restrictions aren’t a concern, I’d go with a G45/G17.
