Me holding my Winchester M1917 Enfield after hitting a target at 1000 yards for the first time with it. Now I can hit at 1000 yards at will with this rifle, and nearly everyone who shoots this rifle (even if they haven’t shot with irons before) is placing shots on steel at 500 yards within only a few shots. I really believe that this is the finest bolt action war rifle ever made (might start some fights with that statement).

I find it fascinating that the US used more 1917 Enfields than 1903 Springfields in WW1. I want to pick one up along with an M1 Garand to have a set of US Army rifles in .30-06 from the first two World Wars.

As for “best war bolt action” I won’t say you’re wrong, but I will suggest giving the Swiss K31 in 7.5×55 Swiss a try. That straight pull bolt action and trigger is something you have to experience for yourself. Kicks like a mule, so your shoulder weld better be tight or she’ll punish you.

Best sights of any Great War rifle I’ve ever shot. Almost like cheating.

It isn’t my favorite but I’ve never hit a 1000 yard target so I will defer to your judgement!

Sorry but you’ll have to tear my mosin from my cold dead hands. Favorite surplus bolt action rifle hands down.

I love these things and totally agree that they are the best off the rack issue bolt action at the time. Those sights are great.
