    It’s fascinating how much history some weapons have seen and continue to see. As long as the machine gun works, the ukrainians and russians won’t mind digging up soviet equipment

    It uses a standard machine gun cartridge and it’s very reliable. So why not?

    There’s so much 7.62×54 literally laying around that they might as well put it to use.

    Further, the old record player there was always popular with infantry until it was phased out.

    I remember seeing the first volunteer battalion “Donbass” being armed with DP-27 in 2014 in the very first days of the hot phase. Fast forward 8 years later, the Ukrainian militia is still using old Soviet machineguns, but now the action is way closer to their homes.
