Gun oil. Maybe once a year I use Mobil1 motor oil because it’s very good for rust protection, the rest of the year I use Breakfree CLP. I lubricate with Lucas Extreme gun oil (not their CLP).

if there’s an extra drop of oil here and there after I clean and oil it, instead of wiping that off I’ll just rub that all over the slide

After I clean my gun I’ll use a paper towel to wipe off excess lube and then use that paper towel to wipe the slide followed my a dry paper towel so my slide doesn’t become too oily. I don’t do this to make my slide look pretty, but rather to protect the coating.

You can get Breakfree CLP wipes at your local gunstore or wal-mart in the outdoor dept.

I use a black arch protos-m so 3/4 kydex and leather backed. The leather slide dries out and sucks up the oil on the side of the slide facing the leather. So I use a silicon cloth or oily rag every few days since I store me CCW in the holster in my safe.
