  • What’s the consensus on magnifiers with prism optics?

I know this question probably has been answered before but just curious to see if anyone has any insight or has tried out a magnifier with a prism optic.

    I have a PA SLX 1X.

Tried it a while back, never could get the zero to coincide. It would shift every time we flipped the magnifier and we couldn’t get the focus to coincide either.

I’ve heard that supposedly Primary Arms has made it to where you can use one of their 1x prisms in conjunction with a magnifier without any detriments issues, but I have not witnessed it directly for my own assessment.

I looked into a bit when I discovered my astigmatism was too bad for dots.
From what I’ve read, you’ll have to adjust the diopter in the prism optic when using the magnifier to get a clear picture. That much fiddling around would ruin the use case of a quick switch between magnified/non.

I went LPVO since it’s pretty wide open here and several accessible 600+ yard ranges.

If you are looking for a compact setup. Something like a 3x or 5x microprism with an offset pistol dot is a good option. Cheaper version of the Acog/RMR combo

Its doable, its user dependent because peoples eyes are different. However a 1x prism plus a magnifier is going to get you close to weight as a lpvo and more weight than 3x micro prism with offset micro dot. Unless you just have to have a 1x prism with magnification one of those latter two options will function better. I have a 1x micro prism so i looked into and the negatives outweigh the benefits imo and there are better set ups.

I’ve done it with the primary arms cyclops. To keep it short, does it work? Yes. But it’s very finicky. IMO not worth it considering other options available.

I have the PA microprism and the 3x magnifier. It sounds like it’s a very individual thing. I got it to work for me and it’s pretty slick.
