Why do people collect guns?

Edit: This is a genuine question. I’m not against owning guns at all. I just was curious as to why. I want to be knowledgeable so I’m not naive on the subject.
My boyfriend has probably 20 guns. He grew up in a small town where guns are normal. I on the other hand did not.
I understand why people have guns, and I’m not against them, but I don’t understand why he has so many. He hunts a bit, but not all his guns are intended for hunting.
If I’m being honest, guns scare me a bit. I don’t want to sound ignorant, so that’s why I’m coming here to ask you all.
What is the point of owning more than 5 guns?
